My Art Journey

Posted on March 8, 2014 at 5:35pm 1 Comment

I love colour and I am not really a fine detail person! I find that when I start painting, I lose myself in the tones and hues more than the exact size and shape of things. It's true of my thinking style I am a big picture thinker and an ideas person and then I hand the fine detail over to someone else.

I always had a pencil and paper in my hand as a child and used to love sitting on trains and buses looking out of the window and drawing whatever I saw. However, I was not encouraged…

I can understand the demands that people will make on you, let alone one´s own.  I always figure if I do or paint what I love, I will never have regrets. eh?

So Koi is something like goldfish?  They are also in the carp fish family and are usually golden or pale yellow and stripes of red sometimes, obviously a delight to the eyes :) They have goldfish in a small pond near our favorite hot springs outside of Santa Rosa, Colombia.  Never drew or painted them that I can remember.  Have you?

Mairi, someone with your kind of talent will NEVER be rejected by people with eyes. It is memorable work and though I don´t even know what KOI is, if you paint it it must be lifelike and probably lovely to see.  Glad you returned to your art. I have a similar story.... I tell people that I was an art minor in college but enjoyed those classes much more than the social studies, psych and history that were my major. I got a secondary teaching certificate, but went into social work, instead of classroom teaching.  I don´t regret it, but wonder what would have happened if I had gathered up my courage when I was in my twenties and jumped into professional art... maybe doing greeting cards for Hallmark in Kansas City.  Who knows?  ...  but I will always wonder what would have happened.  I love drawing and painting and you do, too.  So keep it up!

Looks like Mark Bedwell takes an interest in your work, and rightly so. You do high quality work, something to be proud of!  In fact, I would say it is of top quality.  Keep it up... it is the gift that keeps on giving!  All the best.

Hiya Mairi...........good to hear from you as well.

Didn't realize that you made money from your pics, and so you should, they're brilliant.

Thanks for the info on the art sites........I stopped trying to sell my stuff when I found that people weren't willing to pay me for what they were worth. So these days they ain't for sale......Which causes me a bit of a problem, as I live in a wee flat and I'm running out of places to stash my pics. :o(

As for having dodgy 'age related' eyesight, don't listen. It's more to do with a lifetime of eating dodgy supermarket food than anything to do with age.

Anyway, I hope you sell LOTS of pics. :o)

Hiya Mari.......Many moons ago I made an attempt at making a living from my pics, and because my time was my own, I also would work way into the wee hours. I had absolutely no discipline when it came to how many hours I would work on my pics, and it ended up screwing with my body clock........not good. I think the worst I got was when I worked non-stop for 14 hours one day, and then realized that I hadn't stopped to eat or even to visit the khazi!! That kind of thing is not only bad for your general health, but it can damage your eyesight.

So now I'm retired, I make a point to stop working around teatime..........Oh, and btw, if you like to work under daylight lamps, I strongly recommend  that you change them to standard lamps. Prolonged use of daylight lamps can seriously damage your eyes.

Sorry for not speaking to you for some laptop broke so's I couldn't type and it's taken me all this time to save up for a new one........pfft!
