How many of you out there do more than one type of art/creative venture?  For example, doing painting, as well as sculpture, or knitting. How many different things do you do/enjoy doing?  Do you sell…READ MORE

Best paper options?

So I decided to bite the bullet and bought myself a set of Prismacolor pencils.  I want to make sure I have the best possible paper to use them on.  At the moment all I have are "visual art diaries"…READ MORE

One of the first paintings I did was with some black craft paint (a cheap brand from a craft store) and some new Reeves acrylics in metallics.  I painted a nice abstract design, and then I read up on…READ MORE

I'm curious....if I play around with a photo in Photoshop, and change it in some way (e.g. colors, turn it into pop art) and then paint it, would that painting be able to be sold without any issues?…READ MORE

Get rid of fear

Posted on August 18, 2013 at 10:11am 6 Comments

I need to get rid of my fear surrounding my art.  I am so scared of being labelled a copycat, or having copyright issues, or not having my own style that it's stopping me from just creating.

I need to paint/draw/create for myself.  Who cares if it looks similar to something I found on Pinterest the other night?  At least I had fun making it!  Besides, isn't that how all the best artists learn?

I also need to stop being afraid of making things not realistic.  I keep telling…

So I saw a few tutorials on Youtube last night of hand painted canvas shoes, and I really want to give that a try.  I think it would be fun to make my own unique pair of shoes to wear.

Than I got to thinking about what other things could be painted....sure, there's stuff like t-shirts, cushion covers.  But what about things like phone cases?  So now I'm sitting here thinking how that could be done.

My brain is so hard to control sometimes.

Decisions, decisions...

So I sold my first custom piece.  Took me just over a week to get it done (the weather was not cooperating for me to be painting out in my shed, so I had to drag all the items inside).  The customer was really happy with it which is great.

Also created a piece that will be used in an exhibition/silent with the proceeds going towards mental health.  That was a lot of fun to do, and also something I am passionate about (I suffer from anxiety, depression and recently some bad cases of…

Some good news

So I actually got my first custom order yesterday, which is fun and exciting.  Someone wants me to paint up a canvas that promotes their business, and they will be displaying it at markets and things and helping me get more customers too.

And then today my facebook page for my art work reached 101 likes.  Not bad for only being up for just under 3 months.  This is a really good confidence booster for me, as the last few days that black hole of depression has been looming again and I…
